After careful consideration, our Research & Development team concluded that white PET plastic is the best option for almost all nutritionals, even though the trend for juice-type products is clear glass. White PET plastic is the optimal choice for any product with antioxidant properties. You see, liquid nutritional products that contain natural antioxidant ingredients, such as those found in Mangosteen PlusTM, are light sensitive. (Essential Minerals® would be fine in a clear container.) Powerful liquid antioxidant products are light sensitive because light is a free radical source. Our white plastic bottles block off unnecessary exposure to light that glass bottles cannot. The use of a clear glass bottle could reduce the integrity and efficacy of Mangosteen Plus.
There are many other advantages to using plastic bottles, especially PET. PET is the plastic most often used for bottled water. It is a food-grade plastic that does not release plastic tastes into the bottled product. This could be a concern with other forms of plastic. PET plastic is also strong, but not heavy. Because it will not break, there is no concern of a consumer getting hurt by a bottle that falls and breaks, which could happen with glass. Plus, using plastic that retains the strength of glass without the weight allows anyone, including the elderly, to pick up and use the product with ease.
Our custom bottle design was actually a 16-month design process. This included focus groups with women, who typically dispense the family's daily vitamins and minerals, for shape and styling issues. The weight issue with glass was also a consideration when it came to shipping costs.
